According to SalmonBusiness, nearly 12 tons of fresh Icelandic salmon recently arrived at Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport, marking the first time Icelandic salmon has been imported into China via this airport.
The shipment arrived on August 2nd via a cargo flight, and Hangzhou Customs cleared it using the expedited cold chain clearance procedure.
Customs officials stated that this arrival makes Iceland another source of fresh seafood entering the Yangtze River Delta region via Hangzhou. Previously, products from Norway, Chile, and other countries were already being imported through this port.
This shipment was processed through a "green channel" specifically established for perishable products, employing measures such as advance declaration, paperless customs clearance, and 24/7 customs support to minimize the fish's transit time at the airport.
The opening of this new route coincides with a period of sustained and rapid growth in demand for imported salmon in the Chinese market.
According to data from the Norwegian Seafood Council, Norway's salmon supply to China reached 12,464 tons in July, a year-on-year increase of 27%, making China the fastest-growing market for Norwegian salmon that month.
